On September 19, 1997 the world lost one of the best singer/songwriters in an automobile accident. He was travelling from Illinois on I-35 to Wichita, KS for a benefit concert. Richard Wayne Mullins was originally from Richmond, Indiana.
This page is my tribute to that singer/songwriter. Many people probably don't know him by name because he was not one of the primarily commercial artist. His best known song would probably be "Awesome God" but my favorite song is his "Hold Me Jesus". "Hold Me Jesus" is a song that got me through a down time in my life and lifted me up. A lot of his songs were capable of changing lives and attitudes. In the next few pages I will share his lyrics with you so that maybe he too can bless your life with his love for Jesus and God.
HOLD ME JESUS
First Kings 19:3-13, Matthew 11:25-30
Well, sometimes my life just don't make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small
So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace
And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It's so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart
So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace
Surrender don't come natural to me
I'd rather fight You for something I don't really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I've beat my head against so many walls
Now I'm falling down, I'm falling on my knees
And this Salvation Army band is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin
I'm singing hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

(1 Ki 19:3-13 NIV) Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came
to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, {4} while he himself went a day's
journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he
might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no
better than my ancestors." {5} Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. All
at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." {6} He looked around,
and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate
and drank and then lay down again. {7} The angel of the LORD came back a second time and
touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." {8}
So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and
forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. {9} There he went into a cave
and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him: "What are you doing here,
Elijah?" {10} He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty.
The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets
to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me
too." {11} The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of
the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the
mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. {12} After
the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a
gentle whisper. {13} When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out
and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing
here, Elijah?"
(Mat 11:25-30 NIV) At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and
earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them
to little children. {26} Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. {27} "All
things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and
no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
{28} "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. {29}
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. {30} For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
