Wow! This song has really touched my life. He recorded this before he died on a little battery operated recorder. I think this song describes how I and probably a lot of people feel. This is from his newest recording which was released this year by the Raggamuffin Band, The Jesus Record.
We may not think or feel or see that God is leading us. Sometimes, I think God lets me get lost enough that I want to be led by Him...
Hard to Get
Isaiah 53:4, Isaiah 55:8-9, Matthew 5:4
Matthew 6:11, Luke 22:41-45
Romans 7:18-19, Romans 7:24-25
You who live in heaven
Hear the prayers of those of us who live on earth
Who are afraid of being left by those we love
And who get hardened by the hurt
Do you remember when You lived down here where we all scrape
To find the faith to ask for daily bread
Did You forget about us after You had flown away
Well I memorized every word You said
Still I'm so scared, I'm holding my breath
While You're up there just playing hard to get
You who live in radiance
Hear the prayers of those of us who live in skin
We have a love that's not as patient as Yours was
Still we do love now and then
Did You ever know loneliness
Did You ever know need
Do You remember just how long a night can get?
When You were barely holding on
And Your friends fall asleep
And don't see the blood that's running in Your sweat
Will those who mourn be left uncomforted
While You're up there just playing hard to get?
And I know you bore our sorrows
And I know you feel our pain
And I know it would not hurt any less
Even if it could be explained
And I know that I am only lashing out
At the One who loves me most
And after I figured this, somehow
All I really need to know
Is if You who live in eternity
Hear the prayers of those of us who live in time
We can't see what's ahead
And we can not get free of what we've left behind
I'm reeling from these voices that keep screaming in my ears
All the words of shame and doubt, blame and regret
I can't see how You're leading me unless You've led me here
Where I'm lost enough to let myself be led
And so You've been here all along I guess
It's just Your ways and You are just plain hard to get

(Isa 53:4 NIV) Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our
sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
(Isa 55:8-9 NIV) "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways," declares the LORD. {9} "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are
my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
(Mat 5:4 NIV) Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
(Mat 6:11 NIV) Give us today our daily bread.
(Luke 22:41-45 NIV) He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, {42} "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." {43} An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. {44} And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. {45} When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
(Rom 7:18-19 NIV) I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. {19} For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.
(Rom 7:24-25 NIV) What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? {25} Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
